Skin Care Facts – What’s the Bare Minimum?

Wrinkle Free skin
There are many creams, soaps, cleaners and concoctions on the market to help the signs of aging, but are they really necessary?

Can wrinkles be minimized?

Skin care is more than reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Ellen Marmur, author of Simple Skin Beauty says that, “the appearance of wrinkles is the dead skin so it makes the skin crinkled, like tissue paper layered on top”. She recommends using a exfoliate weekly to help remove dead skin cells that make your skin look dull.

Do Moisturizers Have to Be Expensive?

Moisturizers are made to replace moisture loss from you skin. The more expensive brands may have higher quality items that make the moisturizers feel nicer, glide on smoother and smell nicer but their foundation is the same moisturizing ingredients.

What is important is to match the skin type with the type of moisturizer. Using creams and moisturizers with oily base may not be a good match for oily skin type. So match your skin type with the type of moisturizer.

Collagen can help skin be more elastic
Moisturizers work by providing suppleness to the surface of the skin thus making the skin surface appear smoother and less wrinkled. Collagen helps maintain the elasticity in the skin to make the skin smooth and firm. Wrinkles and sagging skin results from the loss of collagen during the natural aging process. By providing the body with collagen the aging process can be slowed down and wrinkles can be lessened.

Skin Care: Replace Your Collagen to Prevent Wrinkles

A leading University in the UK had done some reasearch regarding the nanostructure of skin care and aging creams and found a startling result. These high performance skin care creams contained a peptide amphiphile (PA).

Peptides are often included in skin care creams to prevent the onset of wrinkles. Wrinkles begin when the collagen of the skin begins to brake down. When people are young their skin has healthy collagen that is strong and taut. As people age the long chains of collagen break down into shorter segments.

These segments are peptides and they trigger the body into forming more collagen. The new research performed at the UK university reveals than the peptides used in anti wrinkle and skin care creams provide a network for collagen to create new growth.

In addition to providing anti-wrinkle relief they hope to use this application for healing wounds as well.

Top 5 Skin Care Tips

Hi there – Its Laura again with some skin care tips.

Did you know that you have around 20 square feet of skin surrounding your body? That’s a lot of skin to take care of. Each day we slough off layers of skin and new skin is exposed and in a lifetime we may grow around 1,000 layers of fresh skin.

To help keep your new skin fresh, soft and supple try these skin care tips.
1. Opt in for a cleanser rather than a lathering soap. Clear soaps and cleansers are usually made with glycerin that is less drying for your skin. Avoid soaps that have extra astringent properties, peppermint and eucalyptus for example, because they may irritate your skin even more.
2. Use an SPF on your lips. In addition to protecting the skin on your body an SPF protectant for your lips is necessary. The skin on your lips is very delicate and should be protected.
3. Don’t wait to use an anti-aging cream. Start now! Vitamin A and C are proven to help maintain the elasticity of the skin and preventing and reversing sun damage and signs of aging.
4. Eat properly and drink clear fresh water. Avoid fried food and pass on the fries. Research has shown that nutrition is the key to healthy skin. Stay away from sugary foods and high carbohydrate treats and pile on the salad.
5. Use a moisturizer suitable for your skin type.
