Skin Care and Animal Testing - What you Should Know

We all like beautiful skin don't we? At what cost are you willing to have it? Animal testing is a controversial issue. Why is it necessary? Some say it is to ensure safety. Cosmetic and skin care products are tested before consumers buy and use it. Animal testing can include exposing animals to different substances to see if irritations develop. This may mean skin irritations, eye tearing or to see if the animals get sick.

Testing for drugs and pharmaceuticals is even more stringent and severe. Test animals are exposed to diseases and then treated to see how the 'new' drug performs. This includes the treatment and side effects. Also animals are examined after the treatment to record any internal cure or damage.

Are there other methods of testing besides testing on animals? YES! Some companies, have long established reliable, non-animal testing methods. These alternatives are permitted for cosmetic companies. Do your research and find out where to find them. I know that Mary Kay does NOT test on animals.  For a list of companies that do /do not test check out The Leaping Bunny to find out more.

If there are reliable methods of testing without cruelty to animals then why aren't companies using them? Some businesses are concerned about their financial situations and maintaining jobs. Others are protecting themselves against liability.

If you buy products that test on animals, you are responsible for promoting that company. Use your prerogative to promote animal friendly products. There are various sites that list 'animal friendly' cosmetic companies. Testing on animals is cruel and unacceptable. Use your purchasing power, you as a consumer can send a message to companies that test on animals.

10 Common Make Up Mistakes - and how to fix them!

  1. Foundation - The most common error is that you look like you are wearing a mask OR you wear no foundation at all!
  • One reason you should wear foundation is to protect your skin. Its purpose is to look like skin and even your skin tone.
  • Prevent the mask look or 'the line' by choosing the correct shade. Apply a small dab on your jawline. Gently rub it in and let it dry. You should not be able to see it. If it is visible, it is the wrong shade. Match your ivory, beige and bronze skin tones with undertones of yellow, pink and bronze.
  • The right foundation weight such as full coverage or light coverage depends on your type (oily, dry, or combination).
  • Trying it on the back of your hand doesn't work. Your hand color and tone is quite different than you face color!
  • Gently dab your foundation on. Then smooth it over your forehead, cheeks and throat. Rubbing it smears and pulls at your skin.

We all Like Beautiful Skin. Don't We?

There are 5 basic skin care steps for smooth skin that will last you a life time.
  1. Cleanse to remove dirt, oil and impurities.
  2. Exfoliate to remove dead surface cells that dull the skin.
  3. Freshen to refine pores as well as tone.
  4. Moisturize to help keep your skin supple and hydrated.
  5. Protect your skin from the environment.

If you follow these 5 simple steps you will have lovley, smooth skin for your life.

To begin your routine, start with a cleanser. The cleanser I use and love is Mary Kay 3-in-1 Cleanser formulated for my skin type. Use your cleanser in gentle upward strokes from chin to cheeks to clean and remove any impurities on your skin.

Remove the cleanser gently using a moist warm face cloth. No need to scrub! Scrubbing will excite your oil glands in your face and may cause a break out. Just rinse or genly wipe the cleanser off.

I love the MK 3-in-1 because it covers off the first 3 steps in my skin care routine. the gently exfoliating beads remove dead skin cells that dull my skin and it works with the natural processes of my skin.

The freshening leaves my face fresh and tingley. I used to use an alcohol based product thinking that the burning of the alcohol was helping me. Now I know I was just doing that. Burning my skin. Now I let the natural botanicals in the 3-in-1 freshen and refine my pores.

Now step 4! Hydrating with moisturizers prevents wrinkles. The loss of moisture in your skin is a major contributor to wrinkles. And who likes wrinkles? Not me. That is why I use Time-Wise Moisturizer especially formulated for my skin type.

The 5th and final step, protecting. Foundation. Choosing your foundation color is not a chore. Just dab a small amount of foundation on your jawline. Smooth it in and presto! It should disappear. If you can see a line you have the WRONG COLOR. Gone are the days of 'the line'. You know the line on you jaw where your throat was a different color than your face.

After following these simple steps you will notice how soft and supple your skin feels, not just today but everyday.
