Finding Products That Work

Finding good products is half the battle. Whether it is groceries, clothing or personal care products. It takes time to find the right product that does the job, and works the way it should, and the way it says it would.

Take time to get good quality products from manufacturers that you know and trust. This is important because:
  • Name brand products are tested and have quality control assurances. This means that they have passed stringent guidelines and are released for public use after they have passed certain guidelines.
  • Quality products use quality ingredients. Top skin care companies understand that quality ingredients will provide it's users with quality benefits and better skin. This in turn will promote the use and customer loyalty.
  • Top skin care lines have consistent production and money back guarantees. If, for some reason, there is a problem with colour or skin sensitivity, a name brand line will accept returns and exchanges. this is handy when the exact color can't be decided in the store or if you develop a reaction to a cream or powder.
Once you have found a line or type of product you like ... stick with it rather than jumping from sale item to sale item. Your skin will thank you for it.

Take a look at the promotions page to see how you can get treat your skin to some quality products.

Skin Care Facts – What’s the Bare Minimum?

Wrinkle Free skin
There are many creams, soaps, cleaners and concoctions on the market to help the signs of aging, but are they really necessary?

Can wrinkles be minimized?

Skin care is more than reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Ellen Marmur, author of Simple Skin Beauty says that, “the appearance of wrinkles is the dead skin so it makes the skin crinkled, like tissue paper layered on top”. She recommends using a exfoliate weekly to help remove dead skin cells that make your skin look dull.

Do Moisturizers Have to Be Expensive?

Moisturizers are made to replace moisture loss from you skin. The more expensive brands may have higher quality items that make the moisturizers feel nicer, glide on smoother and smell nicer but their foundation is the same moisturizing ingredients.

What is important is to match the skin type with the type of moisturizer. Using creams and moisturizers with oily base may not be a good match for oily skin type. So match your skin type with the type of moisturizer.

Collagen can help skin be more elastic
Moisturizers work by providing suppleness to the surface of the skin thus making the skin surface appear smoother and less wrinkled. Collagen helps maintain the elasticity in the skin to make the skin smooth and firm. Wrinkles and sagging skin results from the loss of collagen during the natural aging process. By providing the body with collagen the aging process can be slowed down and wrinkles can be lessened.

Should I wear SPF in the winter?

Everyone likes beautiful skin, don't they? Dry and chapped skin can be a thing of the past and can be avoided, if you follow a few simple steps. The sun's rays can be just as damaging in the winter months as it is in the summer months and a moisturizer with a SPF should be used.

As an added bonus there will be reflection off of the snow which may even intensify the effect of the sun. Consider using a sunblock with a minimum SPF 15. Remember the lower the number the less protection is offered.

It is beneficial to use a sunblock all year round, not just in the summer time. And don't forget your lips. Use a SPF 15 on your lips to prevent chapped lips.

With winter on its way special skin care considerations are in order. Putting the moisture back in and keeping it there is of prime importance during the winter months. Keeping the moisture in your skin will reduce the harmful damaging effects of the drying winter winds.

Here are Six ways you can help keep your skin hydrated this winter:

1. Drink plenty of water . Hydrate your skin from the inside. Good ole H2O will replace moisture loss. Drink eight - 250ml (one cup) glasses of water per day to prevent dryness.

2. Choose mild soap and cleansers. Harsh soaps will strip the natural oils from your skin. Stick to milder cleansers. Choose the best soap or cleanser for your skin type. During dryer parts of the year switching to a less stringent cleanser is a consideration. If you are currently using a cleanser for an oily skin consider changing to a dry skin cleanser if you suffer from dry skin during the winter months.

3. Take short, warm showers . Long hot showers pull the natural oils from your skin leaving it dehydrated. As an added bonus taking shorter warm showers will help reduce your electricity bill.

4. Moisturize after your shower , and moisturize while your skin is still damp. This will 'lock in' the moisture that is on your skin preventing it from evaporating and also the moisturizer will provide additional hydration for your skin. It is important to use a moisturizer appropriate for your skin type. Elbows, knees, heels or other problem areas should receive special treatment to provide additional relief.

5. Invest in a humidifier . Generally dry winter conditions combined with central heating does double duty pulling the moisture from the air and, likewise, from your skin. The humidifier will keep more moisture in the air and thereby slow the natural daily moisture loss of your skin.

Invest in the future, protect your skin. You deserve it!

Simple Winter Skin Care Tips

You can deny it but it won’t stop it from coming. Winter that is. And with it are the harsh drying conditions that pull the much needed moisture from your skin. Take a moment now to review your skin care needs and prevent dry skin with a few simple winter skin care tips.

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. There I think I’ve said enough. Start from the inside out. Drink plenty of water. The dry arid temperatures pull the moisture leaving your skin dry and flaky. Six to eight glasses a day will help maintain the required moisture in your skin.

Try a cleanser instead of a soap and water routine. Some cleansers are glycerin based and are less drying than soaps. Make sure, however, they are non-comedogenic (don’t clog pores). Some cleansers have a lotion incorporated with them that block and dull your skin.

Nothing like a nice hot shower right? WRONG! It will dry your skin out. And while you’re at it, slap on a moisturizer before your skin is all dried out. Applying something as simple as Johnson’s baby oil to damp skin will combat flakiness.

Even in the winter time it is important to protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun. Protect it with sun block. And don’t forget your lips. Anything will do but my absolute fave is Mary Kay lip balm. It glides on smoothly and lasts all day without smearing. Other good bets are Lypsol, and store brand lip balms.
